Chronicle - Bill Management App Reviews

119 add

Disappointing.

Too basic. Only allows for entry of monthly bill payments, not for payments made on balances carried forward (such as loans and credit cards). It would be nice if you could input the balance owing, set your target and have the app calculate the monthly payment. It would be nicer to be able to enter your minimum monthly payment and have the app tell you how long until you pay if off. The only capability this has is to log your monthly bills and income.... why bother? I can sit down and look at my bills without entering them into this app to know how much money went out.

Nice!

Great program for tracking bills and payments, not overly complex. Also great support from the developers!

Just Right!

I have been looking for this program for years. It does what I want, does it extremely well, and does not have all kinds of extraneous features. Chronicle does for personal finance programs what the iPhone did for smart phones. My hat is off to Cronicle :-)

Simple? Yes, but maybe a bit too simple.

Well, I agree its a very simple app to manage bills but it may be a bit too simple. Unfortunately, it wont suit my needs.

Great Program, Needs Additional Functionality

This is a terrific app, it works so smoothly and is so simple to use. If it had the ability to detail the income so that you could have dates and multiple sources that would make it fantastic. And also a totals row on the bottom of the overview screen.

Dencent but needs improvement.

This is a great way to manage your bills, very nice UI but the attention to income is virtually non-existent. Would be far more useful if you could enter different amounts of income on different dates with their sources, just like the bills. You cant adequately do one without the other. For $15, it is not worth it…yet.

WHAT !

This is a really good app , but it doesnt let you know that you can ONLY add 10 BILLS !! THATS IT ?!? Who has 10 bills or 10 expenses ???

Repeat interval problem

I added payments with repeat intervals… but I dont see the next payments...

Great Little App

After recently moving away from paper bills, I was looking for a app that would help me track and manage my bill payments. As a happy Compartments user, LittleFin’s Chronicle looked to be exactly what I needed. After using this great little program for about 6 months now I can highly recommend it. Chronicle is a focused app that allows you to track all your bills and their due dates and provided reminders of when bills need to be paid. On the couple of occasions I’ve had questions, LittleFin support has always been prompt and effective.

Like the app but...

The income management is lacking. Should be able to keep a running balance and see what your balance will be after every bill. Without that this app just doesn’t meet my needs. Seeing your bills is only one half of the equation, without seeing a running balance there is no way to plan your bills and ensure that you will have sufficient funds to pay them. I think that an optional column beside the balance column with the projected balance of the users current bank balance would make this a killer app. Love the simplicity, but adding this option would give all the basic features to let this app handle most users needs. In the last update the developer responded to user requests that current balance can be seen as well, kudos to the developer for responding to user feedback! The app has a great user interface and if it had better income management it would be a great app. You can tell the developer takes pride in his product. As it stands, it is a good tool for bill reminders but doesnt let you plan properly for the month. Although I can tell how much I will need and how much i have for the month, I can’t tell if I will have it in time for the bill. Then i have to pull out the calculator and figure it out manually for each bill. I do use this app regularly despite it’s small limitation with income management and would buy it again.

Decent for what it does

Chronicle does a great job of what it does… tracking bills. However, as many others have stated, the income management portion needs work. That is the number one thing keeping me from using Chronicle. Most peeople do not have fixed pay dates unless they are salaried. The majority of people I know get paid every two weeks, but there is no way to reflect that accurately; you can only select specific days of the month. Uninstalling again… perhaps version 6 will add more flexible income management.

Leagues above the rest.

Chronicle does one thing and does it superbly. Keeps you on top of your bills with a slick, polished, user friendly app, wrapped in a beautiful user interface. The developer is very commited and constantly evolving this app to make it better. Paired with the iPhone/iPad app and syncing through iCloud (which I have found flawless), this is an app you’ll want to keep on your dock and home screen. I love the iconography that is used to clearly sort your bills and the way the app keeps track of your bill history. The ability to customize bill payment intervals, your bill categories and icons, keep track of transaction numbers, and compare income versus bills give this app great functionality. Paying bills is anything but fun, but using Chronicle makes the process delightful to stay on top of. This is worth every penny and then some for the simple fact that it ensures you are always on top of your payments (customizable notifications), and gives you a clear look at what is next. This falls into the category of apps you wondered how you lived without.

It does what it is suppose to do… track my bills…

For a long time I was looking for an easy way of managing my bills versus my income. Chronicle fits the bills in a nice way. Simple, intuitive and easy to use. You don’t even need the manual, it’s so easy. The reminders pop on my calendar and are easy to track. It does what it is suppose to do… track my bills… and I love this app for that...

I Do Like ItVery Much With Some Quaifications

Chronicle is a nice looking App; it manages bills quite well but a few criticisms stand. My main grievance is that I can not easily edit bill payments. So, if for example, I enter the wrong payment amount in a bill (yes I did this), as of yet I can find no way to remedy the mistake. I seem to need to delete the entire bill history (all invoices) and reststart. This is annoying. I really wanted an application for bill management; this is it. But it needs a few improvements to be just right. I suggest: - Better ability to add income into the bill paying account (recurring & special) - A nice allowance (category) for weekly cash withdrawals (wallet cash). - A better ability to handle transfers in/out (no categories seem to apply - I do some account transfers …; maybe tags here?) - The (reallly important) ability to edit bill history to correct entry mistakes. - Possibly some nice charting as to where money went. - Forecasting: tell me accurately how much my upcoming monthly bills will cost (on any day) - “Postcasting”: tell me how much I paid so far this month (on any day) - Budget: Let me declare a monthly budget amount (even month by month?) and tell me where I fit in that? I don’t need to meet the budget exactly; I just need to know if I am close to target. And bug fixes: - The bill counts and bill totals tend to be quite wrong. Should be fixed. - Please let me easily fix bill entry mistakes. And yes: I do use the app consistently and add all data for tracking - going around the few annoyances. So it is a good app; it just falls short of perfect for a few problematic bugs. I recommend it in the belief that the bug fixes will gone in future editions that early adopters then already own …? Oh yes, iOS sync is just fine. My review was Mac-specific.

Really useful app, and easy to use

I use this app every time I pay a bill, or need to check that I’ve paid one. Comes in handy for budgeting, too, because it can always tell me how much Im spending on regular items. Very simple and easy interface. Lots of thought went into this. Latest version has apparently minor but welcome improvements. App is obviously well-maintained. Highly recommended.

Always improving and responding to users

I gave Chronicle a very favourable review in 2012 and I stand by it with the latest version 6.0. Not only does it keep improving, the developer actually listens to the complaints and suggestions of users. My complaint was the introduction of dreary, dysfunctional grey icons and now glorious colour is back in Chronicle. Thanks!

Mandatory Purchase

Apple should buy the company that makes this app and offer it for free to every iPhone user. It’s indispensable and on my home screen.

Good application but incompatible with OSX Lion

Im using this application since 3 months. It does what it promises. Syncing with iCal is a big plus. But, it lacks in creating monthly reports. ***version 4.0.1 is not compatible with OSX Lion***

Molto utile e bella graficamente

------------------ Wonderful app, nothing to say. For anyone buying: be careful, because this version (unlike the one you can buy from the site of the sw house) doesnt have the agent running in background, which will be sold separately, at 2-3 euro in the near future. Would be fair to advertise it: 3 stars (instead of 4) because of this lack of communication (which appears only in their site and not in the App store). UPDATE - 10 gennaio 2014 App has been modified and it resolved the above problem. It still remains an annoying thoing: if you choose to have the app just in menu bar, everytime you click on CMD+Q, the app is always asking you if you wanna quit it or let it in background. I told this thing to developers, many times: they answered it is a choice. The thing is annoying because if you relaunch the Mac, all is in standby for some seconds asking you if you wanna quit or not Chronicle! I still don’t understand the reason of this choice. Apart from this, very nice app!

New Version 6.0.1 Good, But Some Quirks

I have used Chronicle since early 2012 and still think it is a very useful application. I like having it, use it daily, and always look forward to any updates. The main Your Bills screen, showing all active bills, is what I use most. I set mine to show Amount Due, Average Paid, and Next Due Date. The Month-At-A-Glance section shows Bills Due Soon, Bills Due This Month, and Bills Paid This Month. The app pops up a reminder at a user-set number of days before a bill is due, which is most helpful. The Income Logging section shows Estimated Total Income for the month; Income Paid already; and income Still Due for the month, which I find helpful. Like other posters, I am also curious as to why the bill icons, which were various colors in the previous versions, are now monochromatic. They are still, however, useful, but not as easy to distinguish. Clicking on a specific bill shows Payment History, By Month and All Payments (historical); Statistics: Highest Payment, Lowest Payment, Average Payment; Total Paid This Year and Last Year; and Running Balance—Interest Rate and Escrow Amount. There is also a section that is a little not-so-useful, in my opinion: the Payments by Season section, that shows payments in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. I would think that Payments by Quarter would be more useful. Using the payment history for a particular bill would enable one to determine how much was paid during each season. Overall, I still like this application. Support is, to me, always good—anytime I’ve contacted them for an issue, I’ve always received a very timely response. Again, I like this application and would recommend it.
