Chronicle - Bill Management App Reviews

119 Customer Reviews:

This is and has been a great app for me. Although I really do miss the color icons and a few small details like many others have mentioned. I would have given this 5 stars, but it needs a few more weeks; starting with color icons. Other than that, please keep up the great work.

I was generally disappointed that this app didn’t live up to my expectations which were chiefly based on the reviews. I got the app because my personal finances and bills can get away from me, particularly when I travel. I have 5 bank accounts in two banks, paying bills from all of them. I found that (1) The user manual was of little help and I needed to go to online help frequently during the learning curve. (2) The cash balance, banking and income side is primitive and required manual correlation with my banks constantly. (For example, I couldn’t tell Chronicle whether an expected income source had actually paid or not. There is no tie-in with any of the bank accounts.) (3) If you want to use this on your mobile devices as well as your laptop, you have to buy two apps that then synchronize. (That feature works fine.) (4) The mobile app is fairly limited, without some of the features available on the Mac piece. The developer is the sole source of help. He works hard but really needs some outside help with developing features and with keeping a useful user manual up to date. I’m not sure if I’ll delete it, but after about six weeks of use, it isn’t clear that I’m better off for having this app.

I’ve used Chronicle for years and have always loved it (both the desktop and the iOS apps), but the recent update that replaced the colored icons with grayscale versions left me depressed. I’m VERY HAPPY that the color has come back. Really, it’s ridiculous how happy this makes me. Beyond all reason. Anyway. I just wish Apple would go back to color in the Finder sidebar . . .

I have always like and used Chronicle, every two weeks for years now. It’s a great program for some of us. It’s ease of use makes you able to start inputting bills and paying them right away. There is not to much, and there is not to little. I had to recently provide a reference number to prove I made a payment, Chronicles ability to record reference and confirmation numbers saved me, they actually applied my payment to someone else, so with it’s payment tracking information, Chronicle is capable of saving your bacon too. The interface works, the options are what I need, and the functionality is absolutely awesome for bill payment and tracking. The support also is responsive and helpful, and they understand that this is not just some program, this is your bills, this is your life, so they are very quick to answer any questions so that you are able to do what needs done to manage your expenses. I have never said this before, and I don’t see myself saying this again, but this program is worth more than they charge for it.

Nice update. Glad to have the colors back. Does everything it claims in the video (see LittleFin’s Web Site) and does so without any problems. I have been using this app for quite some time across my MacBook, iPhone and iPad and because of that, I’m never late on a payment and it’s easy to keep track of previous payments and receipts.

Update

I would like to say that the current update is outstanding, more eye appealing. Thanks for the income fix. Once again great update.

Update : I can’t praise this app enough , I have a lot of different bills and due dates . This app just takes the work out of organizing your bills and automatically does a very simple budget ( provided you enter your income source and amount ). Oh and this update for color in the icons is the icing on the cake !!!! Thank you Littlefin !! Used to use reminders and that worked good , but this takes all or most of the work out of bill keeping . I recommend this app !

I have had Chronicle for a long time now. The latest version is still great. Never had an issue with this App. For the price, its the best bill tracking program on the app store. LittleFin also has great customer service. Very impressed. After owning it for a year or more, I still use it every day. Best money I have spent in mac app store. Thanks LittleFin for a fine product and continuing to make it better. This is updated review. Update: I still Love this app. I would pay $14.99 (original price) per year to keep this app. I wish I had a windows version as well so it would be on both machines. I will buy it again if they make a windows version. Best app in the Mac app store to me. Perfect!

I love your application. Would gladly buy a budgeting app from you that connects with Chronicle. Like everybody else hate the new colors or lack of them.

UPDATE: Well, I’m glad to see the color come back. I don’t know why you chose to limit our icon choices though. I used to be able to select different colored credit cards for different types of accounts. I used to organize mine as general use with one color credit card icon, and then store credit cards with another color icon. A great tool for quick glances and a fine organization option. What could POSSIBLY have been a good reason to remove our options like that? Was it really bugging you and keeping you up at night that there was more than one color for credit card icons?? The current icons are strange. Consider a survey to ask your customers what icons THEY want and would use to organize. You took something that was great and tried to simplify too much without even taking a poll to see what your users were looking for. Communication is key to a fantastic experience. You aren’t making this program for yourself. Please ask your community of customers what they think BEFORE changes happen. Seriously it’s easier and more fun that way. Previous Review: With the subtraction of color icons, things blend together too much for me. It’s not as easy to find what I want as quickly since the shapes and shades of blue-gray just smear in my sight. I’m very disappointed, more disappointed than when the button outlines were removed and left with just text to click on, as if button outlines were too “retro” for the developer. I really wish I had the original version of this app. I don’t think the developer reads these reviews or asks what people are looking for before he makes changes. The app works well, it’s just graphical changes that really take away from what this program was and how much easier it was visually, to use. I may begin looking for another program that is all about visual aids and text rather than being so text heavy as this one is becoming. Why make something harder to use. The removal of larger color indications of bills is senseless. If it was there to begin with and no one complained, why take it away!?

Chronicle has many nice features, but the lack on import or export of data, means you are stuck with this program with no way to move elsewhere or even import your old data. That limitation should be displayed prominently.

I have been using Chronicle since day one. Chronicle does exactly what I need the app to do which is track and remind me of all my bills. This app is the best at what it does. look no further you found what your looking for.

I love this app…one of my favorite features is youre able to attach confirmation receipts to the payment log. The app was very well thought out. Only thing I have to complain about this app is they need to fix the syncing between devices, other than that it solid.

I’m a young college student who also has to balance work, life, and school and this app serves me extremly well. Because I’m still trying to find a stable foundation of what career I want and establish what costs to expect, this app is great at being flexible to the multiple type of bills and statements I may be expected to pay. -It’s reminder set-up is awesome for someone like me who WILL NOT remember something out of shear memorization and stays ontop of me to pay my liabilities on time. -The setting are useful to make the app perform well based on your preferences, while at the same time not too intricate and difficult to understand. -Customizing options is a plus for this app because you can label certain bills and payments by color or symbol. -The ability to link-it to the account provider to setup auto-pay and sync with your calendars adds an extra safety-net so you don’t get behind. My only negative would be that I don’t remember the app costing me $9.99 which is its current app price to-date. If someone who is flustered with trying to balance their budgets and organize bills/reoccuring costs, I would HIGHLY reccommend this app for only $10.

Chronicle has gone a long way in helping me keep track of bill due dates. Sadly, gone are the days when most bills were due on the 1st or 15th of the month. Now, they’re falling on days all across the month. Previously, I kept a printed list but had trouble with keeping up with the paper. I would be at work and the list was at home or vice versa. I have gone from being late at least once or twice a month to never being late. I get reminders on my iMac, iPhone, iPad and Watch when something is due. How great is that? When I open Chronicle, I can then get all of my upcoming payments at a glance so that I can start paying the nearest ones first. Once I mark it as paid, it falls back to the bottom and I don’t have to worry about it again until next month (will depend on the billing cycle…can be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, yearly, etc). Worth the investment if you’re on the edge about it. Plus their support is very responsive and quite open for enhancement suggestions.

I use this app more than any other. It is simple and very useful to keep bills in order and to make sure no deadlines are missed. Once it is set up, it is on autopilot. On more than one occasion it has reminded me about a bill that I might have missed. My favorite feature is the ability to attach a receipt. I cannot recommend it enough!

Phileagles1998 v6.1.0 · 9 years ago

I have been using this app for about 2 years and I rely upon it heavily. I have both the iOS and OS X versions on multiple devices. I own three residences in two states 300 miles apart. My current application has 41 entires that I track for payment. Some of my accounts are payable, monthly, annually or beyond and with Chronicle I am able to see at a glance upcoming bills and other information. I can track payments graphically or by a list and add receipt information to the specific bill I have paid. Previously I used The Bills to keep me informed about payments, but Chronicle beats that app hands down. I like the ability to fashion notifications and values in the app to my needs. I also like the cross device ability and having the app available no matter which of my devices is close at hand. Chronicle has kept me from late fees and missing payments for the residences I own and surely beats the old method of keeping all the data on spreadsheets that I used five years ago. This app is certainly worth the money and I would recommend it to anyone needing to track their bills and monthly payments.

I own both this Mac OS X app and the iOS app and consider them essential software. I can’t begin to count the number of times this app has saved me from getting late fees or cancelations. It replaced my iOS-only BillMinder app (which hadn’t been updated in years). The developer is very responsive and it shows in all the little details. Highly recommended!

I thought this app will sync with my information from my bank and utility companies and show them in one place, to save me time and effort, but it doesn’t. It’s usless app.
